stuff for kids in Yelapa

August 18th, 2008

We’ll do our best to accommodate everyone of all ages. If you have ideas, requests, or suggestions on how we can make the weekend as pleasant as possible for your crew, please let us know.

What Yelapa offers for kids:

  • There are burros and horses to rent, available on the beach.
  • Guests at the Hotel Lagunita have access to a small pool that’s right on the bay.
  • There’s a beach to play on and a protected cove to swim in.
  • Paths up the river will take you past some farm animals and other interesting sites to explore.
  • Kids in the village may enjoy meeting new friends and bridging the language barrier. We may organize a piƱata “bash” to which kids from the village would be invited.

As for safety:

  • Yelapa has no cars, so there are lots of places to run around with no worries about motor vehicles.
  • Adults and kids alike should follow the advice in the FAQ about using filtered water and keeping a safe distance from scorpions.
  • The town is clustered around a protected cove on the Bahia de Banderas and extends along a mostly shallow river, the Rio Tuito. The usual water-safety precautions apply.

A visit to Yelapa means a fair amount of walking. For parents of smaller children, we can offer advice on places to stay that are more centrally located and perhaps easier on kid-sized legs.

At the ceremony and reception, we will do our best to have a space ready for tired kids who want to rest somewhere and another place for antsy kids who want to play. It’s too soon to know whether we’ll be able to find babysitters for the evening, but we will look into it. UPDATE: Our local contacts in Yelapa assure us that we will be able to find quality child care during the ceremony and reception. If there are other times during your stay when you’d like to have your kid(s) looked after, let us know and we will do our best to help you make arrangements.

Again, please send along any ideas you have on how we can make the weekend kid- and parent-friendly.
