The delicious tastes of Yelapa
We've enlisted a fabulous caterer who will feed us all well on Friday and Saturday evening. For the other meals, here's the scoop on dining out in Yelapa.
Check out "A Food-Lover's Stroll Through Yelapa" for a quick intro to some of the restaurants in town.
For breakfast, our favorite place is Tres Amigos (aka the restaurant at the Hotel Lagunita, on the beach), partly because the eggs are delicious, and partly because it's really pleasant to eat breakfast and sip our morning tea or coffee under a palapa on the beach. We've also tried and enjoyed breakfast at the Vortex (at the edge of the village, looking out over the mouth of the river) and the Eclipse (in the village). We haven't yet eaten at Shambhala and Cafe Bahia in the village, but we're told they also have good breakfasts, and there may be others as well.
Yelapa's pie ladies are famous, for good reason. Try some pie!
Browse around the maps pages on Yelapa.info for more detailed information about some of the restaurants on the beach, in the village, and in between.
If you enjoy Mexican food or seafood, you'll have an abundance of options, but if you don't, no worries: you'll find barbecue at Pollo Bollo, pizza at the Oasis, and salads and burgers at the hotel.
Bring cash for restaurants. The Hotel Lagunita's restaurant is the only place we know of that serves three meals a day and accepts credit cards.
On a hot afternoon, sitting in the shade and sipping a limonada (limeade, sometimes made with carbonated water) is highly recommended.
Pacifico is the beer of choice in Yelapa, though others are available.
Fear not, vegetarians: in all the restaurants we've been to in Yelapa, the beans are cooked with vegetable oil, not lard.
Restaurant staff in Mexico would not dream of interrupting your meal to bring a check or making you feel rushed in any way, so if you are in a hurry, you need to take the initiative to inform them of your schedule and say, "la cuenta, por favor" when you're ready to pay.
